Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations event is a showcase of the diverse, world class wine region and wines of Coonawarra throughout the month of October. The program of events includes wine tasting trails, degustation dinners with winemakers special back vintage tastings to name just a few.
This year Whistle Post Estate is part of the Cabernet Franc Trail along with DiGiorgio family wines, Leconfield and Rymil.
Cabernet Franc has been increasing in popularity within Australia and with visitors to our cellar door. Cabernet Franc is a parent grape of Cabernet Sauvignon, principally grown for blending. Ripening earlier than the Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc produces a comparatively lighter series of flavours than its more famous relative. More recently, however, winemakers have begun to harness the grape’s distinctive taste in order to create excellent lone vinifications.
The Whistle Post Cabernet Franc you will experience as part of the wine tasting trail is small batch production, medium bodied Cabernet Franc with elegant texture and roundness. Flavours of ripe currants and sweet pepper combine with a subtle tannin structure and a smooth finish.
